Hi Lena, Eric Darnell made a film, Grasslands, (1989 or '90) as a student at Cal Arts that involved gluing fragments of 8mm film onto 16mm and optically printing it. It's a gorgeous film. I believe he used the glue for hot splicing. I've used clear nail polish to glue things onto film, and then put clear tape over so the nail polish doesn't chip off. Another option is to use double sided tape narrow enough to fit the 16mm gauge, put your materials on that and then clear tape over.
