The original Latin is ``Quod Erat Demonstrandum'', translates to that was demonstrated (about as much as I remember from five years of Latin).
(although this is probably very poor English :-) )

I had a maths teacher in high school who said that, when used after a simple proof, it could stand for "quite easily done".
