Afterthoughts --
(1) hardware: xserve 8x3Ghzx64bit Intel core.
--> the problem is not restricted to PPC or to OS X 10.5
(2) The permissions problem could also be that the game client is attempting
to make changes to the SDK framework (also write protected from users).
