Detection should be reactivated when the next release of EMM386 and HIMEM use the modified UPX compression tool. Seriously, though, the change will go unnoticed by almost every user. There is a failure of perspective in the topic when comparing that very minor EMM386 modification to basic operational bugfixes in other software.
Anyway, after thinking about it, I exercise my prerogative to change my mind closer to my original position on the FreeDOS release. It certainly does make a difference to the public whether FreeDOS is listed as beta-test software or not, and I've seen comments to prove it. Having beta test software in active development with no solid commitment or schedule to release after ten+ years is a critical administrative misjudgment.
I suggest to label the next FreeDOS with all the latest patches as a 1.0 Release Candidate. Run with RC's for up to a year -- but only if it really needs to go that long, and no longer -- then release 1.0. The strong gust of wind you feel at that point will be the collective sighs of relief from the past, present, and future developers and users of FreeDOS.
