Hi Jim,

Michael makes a good point about keeping Net in LiveCD, but I'd
recommend the "live" part on the CD (where you can boot into FreeDOS
without installing) should not try to load networking by default in
FDAUTO. This could cause problems and a bunch of "help me" emails

How about loading net drivers, but in a non-default boot menu item?

Reminds me of when we had a too zealous EMM386 config as default,
which tried to max out UMB space, ending up being less compatible.

And I agree with Willi and Louis and others to include sbemu and
vsbhda (both in Drivers).

As you wondered about the size, those are only a few 100 kB each:

https://github.com/Baron-von-Riedesel/VSBHDA/releases

https://github.com/crazii/SBEMU/releases

Ancestor VSB and TEMU (T as in Tandy) are even smaller:

https://github.com/volkertb/temu-vsb/releases

And I agree that Sqlite should move to Devel, which puts it on the BonusCD.

I also appreciate Willi's comments about using HTML Help, and
not AMB Help. But since no one else is commenting on that...

I do like the classic HTMLHELP, but AMB is not too large, have both?

Same for "adding FLTK stuff" or "dropping Clam AV."

Like GUI, FLTK would be something for Bonus (for later) yes.

However, dropping ClamAV will make it trivial to have util in Live.
Maybe we can ask the other way round: Does anybody want DOS ClamAV?
As Willi wrote, it needs piles of RAM and is often quite outdated.

I'm not convinced to move Edit or the other stuff to the LiveCD

It is nice to have choices and the category size is acceptable IMHO.

LiveCD should be Base + Apps (but not Sqlite) + Drivers (with sbemu
and vsbhda) + Games + Net. And Zip + Unzip (probably collected with
V8Power and Pkgtools)

Traditionally, we had "tools useful for the installer" in the
Live CD even when not including all of util. However, given
that util has quite some "diagnostically useful" things, I do
still suggest to include all of util.

At the moment, the Live CD only has CALLVER and CWSDPMI, while
for example bootfix, cdrom2ui, dos32a, dosfsck, fdisrc (freedos
installer sources!), fdnpkg, fdshield, finddisk, listpci, listvesa,
memteste, part (odd name for Ranish partition manager?), pcisleep,
pkgtools, search, slowdown, tp7p5fix, wcd, whichfat and xfdisk ALSO
are cool to get things running, or find out why things are not ;-)

In short, the whole UTIL category would be cool to have :-)

BonusCD should be Archivers (except Zip and Unzip)
+ Devel (with Sqlite) + Edit + GUI + Sound + Unix + Util

We can certainly have Devel and GUI in Bonus. But all other
mentioned potential Bonus categories would be nice in Live.
I would assume that those easily fit in the Live CD.

LiveCD = 231 MB (not incl. the "live" part)

The latter may depend on whether all "live" things are fully
pre-installed or whether some install to RAMDISK at boot?

Do we have a list of (binary-only) INSTALLED sizes of all packages,
maybe for a few popular cluster sizes? 2k ISO, 4k FAT32, 32k FAT16?
Note that 8k FAT16 clusters were enough for 528 MB 1024x16x63 CHS.

BonusCD = 418 MB

Regards, Eric
