The new VirtualBox 7.x series is very problematic with DOS… Sometimes. First, I’ll say that I have not noticed any issues with VirtualBox 7.x on my Linux machine. I do not often the Linux machine to run DOS in VirtualBox. But, I have run FreeDOS there and did not notice any problems. My primary computer is an 8-core Intel Mac Trashcan and is a completely different story. When I had VirtualBox 7.x running on that Mac, there were several issues. While there was no “problem" installing FreeDOS T241x, it felt very slow. After installing FreeDOS, I experienced numerous JEMM exceptions. I was left with the impression that anything that used protected mode (like CWSDMPI) would crash. Time was limited. So, I did not test it thoroughly. I simply removed 7.x and went back to the latest 6.x version. All memory issues went away and the installed FreeDOS was many times faster. I have not tried later versions of VirtualBox 7.x. On a side note… There were definitely changes to the emulated BIOS going from 6.x to 7.x. Initially with 7.x, the V8Power Tools’ VINFO command did not detect the VM as VirtualBox. I had to update that tool to detect the new 7.x series. (Then, I rolled back to the working version.) :-) Jerome _______________________________________________ Freedos-devel mailing list Freedos-devel@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freedos-devel
