Hi Paul,
here is my second secret:
Read:

https://www.bootablecd.de/FreeDOS-Internet-version/help110/en/hhstndrd/util/vmsmount.htm

section examples:
The trick is
bios.bootdelay = "5000" in the vmx file.
. You will find it there - and - if you run a few searches in internet.

As each vmware machine has its own vmx file you will have to add it at each new machine.
I did not test it, but the vmx file is created with the new machine, so you can modify vmx very early.

vmware is tricky. As most new installation CDs only need to boot up only ONE time for installation, they do this installation outside the BIOS F2 button.
FreeDOS has the problem with fdisk and a reboot - so it is more complicated to handle. I assume it is a question of security.

Thank you Bernd for looking through this so actively!

It really helps on VMware, because you have to:
-Click middle screen to give focus to the virtual machine
-Click Ok to accept the warning about mitigations performance (if you did not told, never show again)
-Press F2 to go to the virtual BIOS
In less than 1 second... maybe less.

Avoiding forcing people to do that on WMwawre is great.
