Thanks! I now tested the new IPL under VMware. It works as intended: does not find an active partition, waits three seconds, and then the CD boot record takes over. As I did not know how to replace the FDISK inside the CD image, I made use of the fact that VMware boots from floppy first. I then updated the IPL via FDISK 1 /IPL, ejected the floppy and did a reboot. FreeDOS installation continued as normal, while to boot process was stuck before with no active partition found. So I think I will make a FDISK 1.4.1 release out of it in the next days. FreeDOS installer should not have to be changed at all.
