Hi Michael:

I dual or triple boot all of my machines and routinely switch
from DOS to WindowsXP and back. So, this makes sense.

Mark, I booted with HIMEM and EMM386 (+VDS parameter) now (Michael's COW test version), but without DOS=HIGH, without DOS=UMB, and without DOSDATA=UMB

I typed C: followed by ENTER --> crash/hang, doesn't matter if I have a partition C: or not.
I tried DIR C: --> Divide error, stack:
38B3 080A 3246 [10 x 0000]

Tried Fdisk - works normally.

I also tried a:\freedos\format c:
Illegal Instruction occurred

EAX=00005F3D EBX=9CF05E7A ECX=B0906073 EDX=90B015E3
ESI=B0900600 EDI=90B015E3 EBP=B090623B

Opcodes @CS:IP 67 8B 56 0E 64 85 15 32

PANIC: MCB chain corrupted

I don't know if you can also try FORMAT C:, but only VOL C:, C: and DIR C: might just not be enough to deliver a usable bugreport to developers like Michael.
