Imagine booting FreeDOS from a CD and being able to run applications from and save files to a WindowsXP NTFS file system! :-) The legacy applications I am running need direct access to twiddle bits on parallel ports with rather exact timing, for instance, so running in a virtual machine isn't a good option. What I do now is dual-boot, which is trivial once you introduce a FAT partition for DOS to do file accesses - which I currently have to have anyway. I have not been able to get NTFS4DOS to work reliably.
