There is another real advantage to supporting NTFS file systems. Those
of us running legacy DOS applications would really like to be able to
read and write files from NTFS filesystems.

Imagine booting FreeDOS from a CD and being able to run applications
from and save files to a WindowsXP NTFS file system! :-)

The legacy applications I am running need direct access to twiddle
bits on parallel ports with rather exact timing, for instance, so
running in a virtual machine isn't a good option.

What I do now is dual-boot, which is trivial once you introduce a
FAT partition for DOS to do file accesses - which I currently have
to have anyway.

I have not been able to get NTFS4DOS to work reliably.
