The reality is that a lot of the "classic" (say, '486 or earlier) hardware is hard to find - at least in working condition. And dedicating an entire machine to FreeDOS . So most people run FreeDOS on modern hardware (if they dedicate hardware to it at all) or in a virtual machine (more common).
