That atmel series looks much like the STM32F4 series of microcontrollers.
Currently, the STM32F4-Discovery board has more features, runs at 168MHz
(with a Cortex-M4F core, which has single floating-point and SIMD
instructions) and already has an accelerometer, MEMs microphone and a class
D DAC for audio output on a P3 socket, all for a little less than US$15
from Mouser. Some people have even already tried it with codec2 and
reported some finds on the list (like the mic's low performance).
