We have just such an EQ in FreeDV GUI (Tools-Filter), based on sox code.
But sure, feel free to integrate that with the SM1000 :-)
I think the real key here is to set up the SM1000 mic so it's suitable
for Codec 2. This is a mechanical problem. Plenty of other low costs
external mics work well with the SM100 already.
