I have never gotten my Yaesu MH-31 mic to work with the SM-1000. It is desirable for me, as it has a switch on the back that attenuates the lows (a capacitor switched in and out). Supposedly pin 4 is mic and pin 5 is mic gnd, so when I jumper these to pin 15 (mic) and 11 (mic gnd) on the sm-1000, it should work. I think that part of my board must be defective.
