well I have never EVER had a problem with it and industrial PC's all have
their hard drives mounted in rubber isolation mounts.

Plus the drives do not get any hotter.

it's a moot point. it works well for me and every single Industrial
computer on the planet. (they do rubber isolation mounts to protect the hard
drives from external vibration.. in fact the rack mount PC case I have here
is also that way... rubber mounts for the drive cage.

a very small fan running slowly and making almost no noise will cool a hard
drive more than the tiny heat contact patch/ poor heat transfer from
aluminum to thin steel ever can.

If you feel that it's important to you then go with what you believe. I'll
stick to what I see industry and high end servers do, and what has worked
for over 2 years now.

Oh and the thing about the hard drive not being mounted tight makes it
slower is just plain funny!

Decoupling a HDD from the case is no good idea, since more than 75% of the
HDD
heat is emmitted at the side of a HDD. You will either need a further fan to

cool it down or the livetime may be reduced significantly.

If a HDD is not mounted properly and can move a bit or gets too hot seek
time
and access is much slower.

DVD-Players are not nearly as hot as a HDD under load..
