Simple solution for you:  Don't buy it.

Unless you helped write the software, you have no say in what it sells for.

The FreeVSD guys have done a lot of cool things for free...if they want 
to charge for some of the things they do, you or I shouldn't begrudge 
them that.  I have no plans to use anything that isn't Open Source in my 
products, but no one but me has an obligation to make sure that I have 
all the tools I need.

I find it offensive when anyone attacks a mostly free software company 
for creating a few non-free tools.  Interestingly, when a proprietary 
software company opens a few of their tools, they are praised far and 
wide...but when the reverse happens, the community acts as if they've 
been betrayed.

So...Unless you're writing an alternative, /right now/, and plan to 
release it under the GPL or other OSS license, then you have no business 
complaining (even then, it's probably in bad form to complain).

The phrase "looking a gift horse in the mouth" springs to mind...Sheesh.
