Your points are very reasonable (especially wrt documentation, I can only
say we are trying hard to keep it at a pace with development..). Obviously,
not everyone is going to agree with our decision to prioritise our
commercial GUI development work at Windows, but that is the commercial
decision we have taken. We still recognise that a web-based interface will
probably always be preferred by some users and do not intend to abandon
them. There must be some PHP gurus out there, so please step forward and we
will work with you in improving the WebAdmin package.
Many people will not get past their initial reservations about Microsoft in
general but with the work we are doing to allow the secure delegation of
control over domains, web-content, and email, it will soon be possible to
put a simple Windows application on individual users desktops and provide
them with unprecedented control and flexibility to manage their
email/auto-responding/forwarding/web-presence through their companies Linux
hosted servers...
Linux is quickly becoming the platform that powers the internet, but to put
empower users with greater control over their presence on the internet a
Windows GUI which integrates with their desktop and office applications
offers a host of advantages over any web-based equivalent....
Anyway, you can quite rightly consider me less then impartial. So, for
anyone who wants to see the new VSDClient tool in action and form their own
opinion, pop along to www.idaya.com, register, and download VSDClient-lite.
We are setting up demonstration servers to which you can connect and
instantly try the package out. As these demoservers are not yet subscribable
through the web-site drop a line to Mark (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) and he
can allocate you a virtual server which you can try out today.
Let me know if you think your end-users would still prefer a web-based
solution...
Tim
