I raised a similar concern, and was assured me that Idaya are still very much Open Source (for example, new features from the commercial version will be filtered to the GPL version). The idea behind the setup CD is great, but not of much use if one has dedicated servers located in a data center on the other side of the globe (we are based in South Africa, and some of our servers are located in Texas). I hope that the team will keep that in mind. And that other mechanisms of distributing the admin/client programs will be put in place. I cannot see that we'll use the download version on the servers, and then pay $149 just for the client programs. I was quite thrilled after enrolling in their EAP, but the feeling was somewhat dampered after receiving 3 e-mails promoting the new CD, with a phone call from a sales person to boot! One can understand that Idaya wants to profit from their investment/sponsorship in freeSVD, but let's hope they never forget that the success of the product is closely tied to the Open Source movement. rgrds, Johan http://host24.com Your site.
