I would like to address a couple of the comments which have been posted with
regard to the GPL status and availability of freeVSD-1.4.10.

freeVSD-1.4.10 is, and always has been available to anyone, free of charge
and courtesy of IDAYA via anonymous CVS. In the early days of open-source
software this was typically the only form in which software was available
and wholly fulfills the obligation of the GPL to make source code available.

IDAYA has chosen not to make available a source tarball or produce RPMs of
the freeVSD-1.4.10 release at this time. This has been done in order to
encourage people to purchase the freeVSD CDROM. You will all understand the
time and effort in building a freeVSD server, for a small fee we are making
the CDROM available, giving the option to people who want to purchase it of
saving enormous time and effort that could be better utilised. You are free
to obtain the GPL source via CVS and expend the necessary time and effort
yourself. I should also point out that when it comes to installation on
remote servers I am not sure what we can additionally provide beyond the
RPMs and pre-built skels we are making available on the second CDROM.

In the future, the latest versions of freeVSD software will initially be
made available for purchase on CDROM. Packaged versions of the latest
release will, at a later date, be made available for download via ftp from
freevsd.org. All releases and ongoing freeVSD development will continue to
be available for download via anonymous CVS. At a later date I hope it will
possible for IDAYA to make available packaged versions of the latest
releases and even iso images. Unfortunately, at present, it is not.

IDAYA have every intention of continuing the freeVSD project towards its
stated goal of 'establishing freeVSD as the most advanced and finely tuned
web hosting system available'.

IDAYA will soon be launching a commercial release of freeVSD, named proVSD,
which, while based on freeVSD, offers considerable advatanges in terms of
optimisation, functionality and support. We anticipate that proVSD will be
the package of choice for serious web-hosting applications. However, proVSD
will not replace freeVSD. Those who continue to use freeVSD will continue to
benefit from the support, improvements and enhancements which will be passed
onto freeVSD from proVSD development work. This mirrors the arrangement of
countless other open-source projects and means IDAYA will be continuing to
serve the open-source community.
