This says it all really I don't see what everyone is moaning about like Nick
says FreeVSD is very much Free and *always* will be but if Idaya don't want
to make it easy for people to get the software on RPM then that is their
choice and I would say probably fairly sensible considering they are
launching a commercial product. If anyone really feels so strongly about
loosing their RPMs then why not get the CVS and make an RPM for everyone to
download off you; after all it is open source and Idaya aren't under any
obligation to do everything for you but you have the chance to help the
FreeVSD community by doing this.

I think that this is a sad fact and really does show at the end of the day
that a lot of people want the moon on a stick someone makes a patch and then
doesn't want to release it for fear that someone might make money off their
hard work.

True we were hoping to sort some of this out with Ben's FAQ
(http://www.fubra.com/vsdfaq/) and I think the questions have been more
FreeVSD orientated or at least less common since we published it. But this
is no substitute for the FreeVSD documentation we are working on and I think
it is true that until there is more info about the inner workings of FreeVSD
but at the end of the day it is not Idaya's fault there is no proper
documentation and the scripts seem well commented from what I have seen
anyway. Also we will continue to work on this documentation for the benefit
of the community and we know that when we release it we will disadvantage
ourselves by making it easy for competitors or our commercial venture
(www.hoston.it) to pop up all over the place but we feel that this
contribution will help FreeVSD to grow and with the amount of ground work
that has already been done mostly by Idaya we think this contribution is
hardly anything in the scope of things but we believe in open source and we
hope that by making it some other people will start using FreeVSD and will
contribute a similar offering that we can benefit from commercially just as
they may have benefited from our docs.

Essentially you are saying here is that you want to keep your patches away
from the community so that Idaya (a large part of the FreeVSD community)
can't make money off you (If they decided to use your patches in ProVSD). I
am glad Idaya (the Major "Contributors") don't take such a petty attitude or
most of the features we have in FreeVSD wouldn't be there just in case you
came along and actually used the parts they have written commercially or
otherwise.

In fact (and this is coming from someone who doesn't know all the rules
about open source software and what is right or wrong in the eyes of the
FSF) your position seems nonsensical, please tell me if I am wrong but
regardless of the rules I think my underlying principal is right.
