I take your point here but at the end of the day I don't think FreeVSD will
die; after all it is still there and running the site is not going to cost
too much the main problem for Idaya I am gussing is that after spending
probably millions doing lots of development on this project the company may
or may not be selling as many products as it needs to stay afloat. If they
are not then quite rightly they should loose focus on spending time
developing a project that doesn't bring in any cash and focus on a product
to make them money which they feel is ProVSD. Then perhaps if they can sell
their products they will have more resources to devote to FreeVSD. I think
you can apprechiate that they are in a different situation to you, in that
Open source was their day job for a long time, and for you it sounds like a
hobby.

I disagree again I am not sure about the licencing and I am probably looking
a bit silly to all the free software vetrans? But as a company we have two
programmers working on FreeVSD internally not full time but we are happy to
release *some* of our patches once we have finished to the FreeVSD project
and also the documentation we have been writing. We know that by doing this
we are going to give some people our work and they will use it comercailly
and compete against us but we won't give them everything we do and the bits
we do give them combined with what has already been done and combined with
other contributions will hopefully serve to make a better core product for
others to build on. Also we realise that commercailly the more people who
use FreeVSD the better becasue then we don't have to work so hard to explain
the benefits and differences and also if people want to transfer in to our
service from another FreeVSD host becasue we will be so much better :) then
it will be easy to do.

There are lots of other points but I don't mind paying programmers to work
on software we might give away the source for free one day. So we for one
will be contributing to a project from which the ideas and efforts end up in
a commercial effort even if we make no money from that effort.
