As has been said. I think it's generally not a good idea to upgrade software mid-project if at all possible. Could potentially cause a world of pain for you and your client.
With my v1 and v2 component question (using them in the same project). I'm not going to do that unless I'm almost absolutely sure it will work ok., and I'm not sure at the moment.
