Great writing there, Brett. I entirely agree with your explanation.

I was very concerned at getting involved in XML as it seems linked with so
many other technologies (or acronyms!) that it's hard to know where to
start.

Now that I've written my first XML app I can now see many opportunities to
exploit it in other applications and you can bet when I move on to my next
project I'll be bearing in mind its extensibility ;-)

I also agree that to truly realise some of the more advanced features of XML
you have to go to a lower level of abstraction than CF can handle at this
time, so I look forward to CF5 and Java (even though I know no Java
whatsoever).

I think it's a shame that Allaire gave up on WDDX. Sure it's got it's place
in the CF community, but it could of been so much more. When was wddx.org
last updated????

Ben.

p.s thanks for your help on CF-Community.

Where to start....

| XML itself is a scheme for data *storage*. Who cares about how the
| data is stored?

XML is also serves as transmission format, which allows data to be shared
between applications/platforms. It provides a standard middle tier that is
VERY powerful.
