Hi,

MySQL is very, very fast but there was no support for nested selects and no
support for transactions. I'm not sure if this has changed but there are
some workarounds for these problems.
Another alternative is Interbase 6.0. Free and open source. This is a
reliable alternative on many platforms, with all goodies, such as triggers,
stored procs, transactions etc and a low memory footprint. Connectivity was
a problem because ODBC drivers where not threadsafe. Now there are some new
drivers, so if you're willing to spent some money on ODBC drivers (about 100
dollars) you might have a good alternative, in combination with ColdFusion.
(If you are doing JSP development, even better, since JDBC is no problem at
all).

Regards, Wil

Alan,

Do you have any philosophical objections to MySQL? Largely free, lots
of
great community-provided tools and support, truly multi-platform.

First Linux, then Apache, now MySQL. What next, PHP? ;-)

Let us know what you decide.

Leeb.
