Just a picky point -- ASP isn't a language, it's an object model. If you
want to create an ASP site you still have to pick a language. VBScript is
the one used most often, but you could also use JScript, PerlScript, some
form of Python (I think), etc. Doing an ASP site in anything other than
VBScript is probably a stupid thing to do, however. Unless you are so smart
that you never need 3rd-party reference materials.

I don't think ASP is going away, but mith MS you never know. :) And, I'm not
sure what will be happening to ASP with the >NET thing coming out. I know VB
programmers are being screwed to the wall, I don't know about ASP.

If you decide to go with JSP realize that you're actually learning Java. The
good news is that Java programmers make big bucks. The bad news is that if
you don't have a "real" programming background the learning curve will be
plenty steep.

JSP probably isn't going away, and we can be pretty sure Java isn't, so
learning that will probably help your marketability.

PHP is fun and seems to be fairly quick for a CF programmer to pick up. It's
actually more like VBScript than CF, however. Imagine writing a CF app and
only using code inside CFSCRIPT tags. That's what PHP is like (it's not
tag-based).

PHP is so new, and since it doesn't have a big ol' corporation pushing it
it's hard to tell what the future holds for it. But if you believe that
Linux isn't going away, then you might park PHP into that same belief.

Look at the number of "help wanted" ads for ASP, JSP, and PHP. I think
you'll see they're in that order, so which one you learn may depend on how
quickly you need to find work using it.

Well, that may be enough blathering for one day...
