Karen,

I had wondered why the Administration had mentioned the two al-Qa'ida men
in northern Iraq as part of the proof of Iraqi threat. My guess is that
al-Qa'ida sees working with the Kurds as a way of circumventing Us
intentions there and as a way to be ready to move on Iraq at the moment
they see it crumbling. Also, a united Kurdestan could be a powerrful
launching pad for al-Qa'ida to bolster the fundamentalists in Turkey.
What I can't figure out is how this would affect their relations with
Iran except that they may figure that the Shi'aa majority there will
never buy into al-Qa'ida anyway in the long run. My guess is that any
contact al-Qa'ida has with Saddaam is so that they can double cross him
later.
