Apple made it pretty clear the iBook has user installable memory and 
Airport card and that is it.


While promoting purchase of new computers rather than upgrading is one 
aspect of this, it's also a design issue.  The more parts that are 
readily accessible the bigger the laptop is going to be and the more 
expensive.
