I will run XBench on them and have a look, GeekBench too.

I have two mates with a G4 550mhz Pismo and G3 iBook 500mhz which I shall also 
throw into the benchmark pot.

How about some Xbench results? I suspect they'll be closer?

The specs are nearly identical, I can't see where there'd be a big  
difference?
