I'm a translator by trade, and all my machines serve similar purposes:
work (wordprocessing, mostly), Web browsing, email, and, for fun, DVD
playing. I dabble at video and photo processing on other, newer
machines, as it would be a little frustrating in the Pismo and the
Lombard --although the G4-ed Lombard does Photoshop pretty decently.

Tiger --preferably a clean install-- will run even faster in that
machine. You'll see.

They are easy to love, these old beasts. They're so comfortable to
hold, and the keyboards are like the best ever (everybody wonders why
Apple stopped using them).
