You did restart after turning on the extensions didn't you? Almost any PC Card you plug in will make an ICON appear on the desktop. That's a function of the System. It will display a generic ICON if there is no driver for it (I don't recall what it looks like). I think you mentioned it but what happens if you double click on that ICON? IIRC with an Airport like card it will launch TCP/IP. This means something is recognizing it correctly. You might try searching on Apple for, I believe there is a Airport Installer package.
