Tiger is much faster, overall, than Panther.  Stick with it.

The problem with Flash is Adobe - their plug-in is a horribly written cpu pig.

Some Flash presentations, if you right-click on 'em, you get a pop-up 
menu that will offer lower quality or lower bandwidth versions. 
Selecting one of those will sometimes help.

Might be worth trying a multi-codec plug-in such as Perian.  It can 
play some Flash stuff, and usually does a better job than Adobe's.
