Hello friends of the little black ones,
my problem with a proved Pismo 400 MHz after installation of a "tested" CPU (after death of the former): It won't startup in "full mode", neither in OS 9 nor in OS-X (10.4). I tested the whole hardware with another 500 MHz CPU and know definitely: everything is OK. I bought a replacement CPU at ebay of a well rated dealer. I initialized the HD, installed Tiger from a full version DVD, everything went fine. After restart I get a grey screen with grey apple, then the blue screen, then, after a while, a white screen and then it stops. Nothing more (no bargraph) The cursor can be moved. Starting into safe mode (hope that's the english expression?) the Pismo boots very well and I can do what's possible in a stable manner (but of course not all the things I'd like to, as there are no extensions) I installed OS 9.1 too and I get the same phenomenon: After restart the Pismo freezes after the second icon, even with 9.1 standard set. Restarting with extension off is running ! Meanwhile I tried PR-reset. I have to mention, that no other changes were made with the hardware configuration. QUESTIONs: - Any idea what might be the problem and how to solve it? - Can it however be a defect CPU? - Might firmware be an issue? (Please remember: The PB is running fine with another CPU board, it is original 400 MHz) - Is firmware installed on the motherboard or on the CPU too? (So: might it be a firmware issue?) As the firmware wasn't changed and the RAM is the same as before I can't imagine the reason might be RAM-related. Added: - - - Meanwhile I tested to add some extensions in OS 9. I can add some and the Pismo will boot, but not the full 9.1 set and OS-X won't start at all. - - - I don't know what to try else and hope you'll have some proposals Best regards MacDirk --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are a member of G-Books, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
