The DVD decode is ONLY needed for AV DVD's, such as movies. The Tiger  
DVD is a data disk and ANY DVD drive reads them.

However, optical drive failures on these systems are legion, and one  
of the most common issues is reading CD's not reading DVD's or vice  
versa.
