I was wrong. It seems that the Orinoco Gold chipset is one of the few 802.11b chipsets that gained WPA support. It's been too long since I've connected to an encrypted network with one.

I think the WPA is done in software for the Orinoco and Original Airport cards (same chipset). Airport Extreme cards support it in hardware.
