Hi All
I have a G3 iBook 500 with no sound. 10.4.11. I t shows the volume is up but
can't get any sound from speakers. I looked at a manual from PowerBook Medic.
But it doesn't refer to any sound card. Do these machines have a separate sound
card?
Try plugging in some headphones.
I plugged in phones and they work properly, but there is no speaker selection
in the device box in sound preferences.
Try plugging and unplugging the headphones several times. It's likely the
switch in the headphone jack is having problems.
Is the switch the reason the speaker selection is missing from the preferences
box? Is that an integral part of the logic board, I think I read somewhere that
the icebook is a bear
to repair stuff because of the difficulty levels?
I'm not sure to what you refer. On my iBook Clamshell (10.4.11) in the
System Preferences / Sound / Output under "Choose a device for Sound
Output" it lists "Internal Speakers Built-in Audio". If I plug
in headphones it shows "Headphones "Built-in Audio" instead.
If that is what you mean then yeah, it sounds like the headphone jack
is hung up some how.
