Gotta be quick--almost out of time again---Yes, I am most worried about
FreeHand and Quar- I have located patches for the Freehand but now have to
figure out how to get at them since the library no longer allows downloads to
thumb drives of these files.  Of course I have no access to ANYTHING right now
and bringing in my files would be pointless since these PCs ..hmm- if I bring
in either Quark or Freehand files- can I magiaclly (well you know..) change the
format into something transmissible so they could go out with a email?  I
thought I would have to actually bring in something as a say...jpeg to attach
and none of my files ARE. (Also not even sure I have zip and upzip-- never had
to use them--sad but true!  If they are in the original OSthen it is there-
otherwise--my dial-up speed is 24K and I canNOT download anything or open files
either for that matter).

  ,
Agh--time's up!

Hi Sheryl

Hoping this catches you in your 1 hour at the library.

PDF and JPG should get though OK. However, why not try compressing other
filetypes into zip format before sending them. Alternatively, you could drop
them onto my iDisk if the library PCs will allow this. (Email me at
[email protected] if you need a 'how-to'.)

If your old photoshop files are in TIFF or JPEG (or even EPS) format, they'll
open in newer versions of photoshop. TIFF, etc, are cross-platform standards.
Photoshop's always been able to open a large range of graphics formats. And if
you have no luck with that, use GraphicsConverter (from
http://www.lemkesoft.com/). It will open just about any graphics file, and
allow you to save it as just about any other format. It also has a number of
graphics editing tools. It's not free but it's much cheaper than a brand-new
copy of photoshop.

However, I thought you were most concerned about your Freehand files. I'm still
happy to see if I can retrieve those for you, as well as trying to open
Photoshop files.

cheers

Bruce

Ah- wish I could (I just fried the Wallstreet too last night- trying to get it

only get one hour a day at the library--have to be honest...if I brought in a
thumb drive with some of my Freehand files on it, SHOULD i be able to send
something to you for the library PCs?  Not that I CAN, but if you say I should
be able to, I may bring one along nixt visit and give it a try--not sure how to
do that (i.e I am used to only sending files such as pdf, jpeg...not plain????
files).  Sigh- just not enough of a Geek!!!!!!

(then I have to figure out--I have never been able to use Photosho- bought an
old versiont o see if I could learn it--never have been able to-- tutorials not
basic enough, but I'd still like to be able to try--and I am pretty much
certain that far back is a non-issue--simply ain't gonna open with the Snow
Leopard--yes?no?

Hi Sheryl

I fly Adobe CS3 (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc) & MS Office 2008 on a
2008 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard - which will be the OS that runs on your
new iMac.

Want to send me some of the Freehand, etc, files you're concerned about? I'll
be happy to try opening them and let you know what transpires.

Cheers
