Hi Sheryl

Apologies in advance if I'm patronising in any of the following...

OK, if you're using a library PC then it's quite likely that it won't have
ZIPping software. (The PC software I know of is WinZip.) It's also almost
certain that they won't allow you to install anything.

The advantages of ZIPping are
- the file is compressed, so it's quicker to send
- the file is wrapped in a hassle-proof armour, so that it shouldn't get
corrupted en route from mac to library PC to your ISP's server to my ISP's
server to my router to me

BTW, when a file is ZIPped, your original file isn't change in any way. If your
original file was called 'picture', you end up with both 'picture' and
'picture.zip' - and then you'd send the latter.

You can try sending the files to me as they are, because these days it's rare
for files to be hassled en route. NB, please send them directly to me at
[email protected], not to this list. I have
- Freehand 10 (I think) and an earlier version,
- Illustrator CS3, V9, V8 and V5
- Photoshop V3, V5.5, V6 and CS3
- Quark V4, V5, V7
One of these should be able to open the files you need rescued and save them in
a format that suits you.

Failing that, there's my iDisk or posting me a CD or flash drive. If you want
to post me files to try, please don't send me your original flash drive, just
in case it goes astray in the post. Get a friend to burn a CD or copy from 1
flash drive to another. If you do this, it should matter whether they use a mac
or a PC - they are just copying electrons, not trying to interpret them.

I get the feeling that you're in the US. I'm in Scotland, so post won't be
overnight! (Allow about 7 to 10 days each way from US to UK.) Again, if you
want me to do this, please email me directly to let me know. I'll send you my
contact details by return.

cheers

Bruce
