It seems to me that the quick solution to the problem is to purchase a tower
such as a Apple G-4 Quicksilver with a zip drive built in bellow the CD/DVD
drive (I just checked ebay and you can buy them now for $150) so you can
read your zip drives. Then get an external case for your G-4 drive and put
it in that so you will be able to access all those files also from the
Quicksilver and you should be good to go. The reason I suggested the
Quicksilver is that I have had one for years with no issues, although I did
upgrade mine from a 1 Ghz G-4 to a 2.2Ghz G-4 for better Photoshop speed.

Just don¹t run Snow Leopard on the Quicksilver and you should be able to run
all your old software just fine for very little money, although you wouldn¹t
have a laptop, but then the iMac was a desktop unit also.
