Hi Bruce- I want to concentrate for a moment on the Quark problem

My copy of Quark 7.3.1 installed and works on my Pismo (G3 chip, Mac OS
10.4.11) and my MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo chip, Mac OS 10.5.various and Mac
OS 10.6.2). I can't see a good reason for your copy not to work on your iMac.
If you still have the box for your Quark installer disks, do they mention 'Mac'
'Universal'? The 'Universal' bit is about the disks containing installers for
both G3/G4 and Intel chips.

Yeah, I know about the Universal logo- when I called Quark a year or so ago
they made sure I understood that UNIVERSAL meant it would run.  Apparently
something very significant  happened when going to 10.6.  Now Quark says some
people try it and say yes, some say no- they are not supporting it (hope I have
that word right).  I went ahead and actually managed to download the update to
Quark 7.5-- and tried to run it-- nope- I get the screen that says Quark and
then a message that Quark has unexpectedly quit--I tried many times, tried
shutting down and restarting- etc.--no luck.  When I called Apple about it they
said just what Quark said- in 10.5 it was compatible, but not in 10.6. FYI- I
installed from the disk for 7.3 and tried--nope...then got the update to7.5
download--and  that won't run either.  Since both Apple and Quark say the same
thing, I am tempted to believe it.  But, then Universal does not necessarily
mean...um..universal!!
Please pardon my total ignorance- but was everything up to 10.6 32 (uh--is
the word bit in this context?) and the change to 64 came with 10.6?  I am
trying to figure out why one 10.6 (yours) is not the same as mine (mine is
10.6.2 if that makes any difference).  It is sounding as if either you happen
to be one of those Quark mentioned as saying it would run OR the difference is
more intrinsic with the iMac???????  ((As an aside- the new printer that came a
a promo with the iMac--no one told me- came with installer for 10.5 and there
are all sorts of problems--so HP said to go to their site and get the current
installer- when I did I got the message of a security alert-so I stopped.  I
just now let the iMac search and it is found--drum roll---- will only take 4
hours to download!! So, while I am doing other things online I will see if it
can get anywhere with the download--grumble--old working with new problems I
understand-- but this is new to
 new. Sigh.))

> My business files are in Quark (don't ask)--meaning I cannot do my taxes
> until I can access them--plus TurboTax said I willl need DSL to download any

Sympathy for lack of broadband.

Happy to hear that one problem is (on the way) to being solved. For now, I'd go
with Bruce Johnson's suggestion of a 'naked drive' adaptor to connect your
Wallstreet HD to your iMac: much cheaper than buying an extra desktop mac. This
will also let you know whether the Wallstreet HD is toast, and you can
concentrate on file recovery and getting things working on the iMac - and then
sort the Wallstreet for that 'I rock' feeling.

>> And remember, you did the most important thing - you made backups!
> Yeah but I have no way of accessing the files
There are ways around this - even if you have to take you Zip disks to someone
with a Zip drive and CD burner.

> --and I was soooo proud of myself!

Seen too many people lose critical data, including manuscripts for the
publishing company I work for. Classic example was an author who carried her
only copy of her 'script on an unprotected floppy in her handbag. It died just
before she was ready to hand over her final edit. She then spent the next 24
hours rekeying it all from hard copy of the last-but-one version. You're not in
that situation so there are just minor obstacles which can and will be
overcome.  I suspect the IRS would not accept my disc with the explanation that
all my data is on there- honest!

Well, the dead Wallstreet was, apparently, not the simple obvious  problem of a
bad power adapter..or at leas the new one did not make any change- still quite
dead.  I think I will try to deal with the Quark thing and once that is
resolved...the printer...and THEN the Wallstreet.  I must admit I felt as if I
was cheating on my Wallstreet when I went to eBay to see if there were any
others similar to it for sale.  Ah yes, I cannot even think about spending MORE
money.  I really wish there was a simple way to get Quark to work, but may have
to cough up (well on plastic) the $300.  I may just see if there I anything on
the Quark site about this issue...
Sheryl  (well the little spooling download line still says--no it just changed
to 3 hours- making progress!  OOPS now it says 5 hours)
