Hi

Well while I am aware of the problems many have had with the iBook G3, this is
now the third I have owned personally and have worked on/repaired many for
other people.

I've had two 500mhz models and an 800mhz model. None of while suffered this
problem, two of which suffered from a worn video cable - which is fed through
the big silver hinge and over time rubs from constant opening.

I have seen a number of 600mhz models with the infamous logic board/graphics
chip problems.

According to MacInTouch the numbers are surprisingly high. The 500Mhz models
seem the safest with logic board failures (although this doesn't necessarily
mean directly the graphics chip) of only 16%, against 700 & 800mhz models
having 50 & 51%.

Although the 500Mhz models have 55% repair (comprising of all component repairs
not just logic boards) while the 700Mhz have a 74% repair rate.

Interesting. Seems my 500Mhz is amongst the safest out of the G3 range.

Also seems it is a little higher than Bruces estimated 10%.

Regards
