I personally have been stung by the bad video chip problem in G3 iBooks. That 
being said, I sold a 900MHz 12" iBook to a friend nearly 2 years ago, and it is 
still going strong. After selling it to her, I kept waiting for that shoe to 
drop, and it never did. She plans to "upgrade" to a G4 iBook this fall, so I 
may get that one back in trade. 

I understand that the 500MHz models had less issues with the video chip, and 
have been told by more than one person that they are less likely to suffer that 
fate.
