Your local IT store will sell you thermal paste. In the UK, I'd go to
MaplinsIt's the off-white to grey gunk you'll find under the heatshield. You
just need to patch it so that there's enough contiguous stuff to transfer heat
from process to heat-pipe (to take heat away to the heatsink at the front-left
of the under-keyboard gubbins).

You don't need a high-performance paste, just the cheapest of cheap - no more
than £5 for a wee tube that will last you a lifetime of Pismo maintenance, in
my experience. There are much higher-grade pastes for faster, hotter processors
but Pismo is 400 or 500MHz and so won't generate a lot of heat.

Never worried about it myself, but I smoke anyway. Just don't smoke over
Pismo's internals - after all he or she is still a minor. I'd suggest a small
fan on a slow setting to keep you cool while you're doing the surgery and to
blow away any noxious stuff. But don't forget to tape down the screws you
extract!

cheers
