A few years ago I ran Ubuntu 5 on an iBook G3 500Mhz and it worked
good, now I am thinking of installing 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) on my Pismo.
Anyone had experience installing Ubuntu on a Pismo and any tips.
Some Ubuntu experience, but not on a Pismo. I'd suggest installing
Ubuntu onto an external Firewire HD and boot from there. The reason
I'm going this way is because OS 9 and OS X don't natively support the
Ubuntu Ext3 filesystem without extra extensions. This means you're
going to have a major issue with a bootloader. As far as I know the
only GUI bootloader that supports all three filesystems is Chameleon,
and it's not for Macs, it's a PC/hackintosh only bootloader. I'm not
up-to-speed on command line bootloaders for Mac, but it's going to be
a major hassle. It may even be hard to get Firewire booting working,
although I think it would be magnitudes easier than messing with GRUB
or the DARWIN bootloader. You can likely specify the Firewire port in
Open Firmware command if you're not given an option with the Option
key boot?
Ubuntu 10.10RC was released today, and the 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) GM
is scheduled for release on 10-10-10 (Wow, that's a lot of ten's
Ubuntu 10.10 on 10/10/10, what do you want to bet the release time is
10:10:10 GMT?)
