I used pdisk in macos9. or parted in the installer. I don't like the
ubuntu installer for its unfriendliness using parted.
In any case I installed ubuntu the standard way on an imac recently
and it only currupted the driver partitions installing the bootloader,
not the system partitions (only os9 uses the drivers) -- to fix have
to boot off cd and in drive setup update driver.
