More Zip Drive Agony

Okay, before I fixed my old Zip drive (Wallstreet expansion bay above
posts) and thought it was junk, I bought one off eBay for cheap
($10).

Altho described in "excellent" working condition, I was disappointed
when it arrived in beat up dented condition and the opening was so
tight the disk wouldn't even go in!

I looked it over carefully and discovered that the end "tabs" in the
disk opening were bent and binding against the disk itself. So
carefully I adjusted those and then figured I'd fixed another one!

Alas, although the disk now went into the drive very smoothly and it
seemed to function, it would only make noises (4 instead of just 1
noise like a working unit) and the disk icon does NOT appear on the
desktop.

I don't suppose there is any remedy for this thing and guess that I
have now officially joined the junk Zip drive club.
