I think this is coincidental and not cause & effect. I suspect your HD is going bad, perhaps the fan on you iBook has stopped and the HD has overheated? On a modern G4 iBook with SATA HD it's NOT common to have to run Disk Warrior "each time you update", so I'm pretty certain you're looking at a hardware issue, not a software issue.

You could reinstall the 10.5.8 Combo Update to "refresh" your System Software without resorting to a full System reinstallation. I suspect you're going to be having future problems anyways, and may want to be searching for another HD ASAP. Make sure the fan is working also.
