Click on the icon >of the Application (which should be the 'W' for word X) and the select the >word 2001 program, which is either already in the list or you can select by >browsing to your folder tree by choosing 'other..' (possible location: >Application (Mac OS 9)-Microsoft Office ?). The symbol should now stand for >word 2001. Finally click on 'Change All...' and confirm the dialog box. That >should do the job.
I'm pretty sure the trouble with that is when he's in OS X, he'll launch Classic and run Word 2001 which he doesn't want either. Seems to me one would need either an applescript (if that can tell which OS its running in) or a small program. Then that would be the program chosen to 'open' the word files and it would in turn launch the correct version of word and tell it to open the file. Seems like a pretty simple programming task, maybe someone will write it. B -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
