If this is the case, then why do multiple versions of Internet Explorer, 
iTunes, and BBEdit reside happily on my hard drive?

(I guess that's really more of a rhetorical question than one I expect 
anyone to have an answer for. It was just something I thought of when 
messing around with this Word stuff. I tried Snitch as per your 
suggestion, and it didn't do the trick, but it has proven to be a neat 
piece of shareware that I'm definitely keeping around!)

I guess I'll be delving into some ResEdit-ing!
