Bill,

I definitely hear you. I've been a Mac user since OS 6, and also have
tended to wait until a bug fix or 2 before upgrading on my main machine.

The main reasons to upgrade to OSX are really about convenience and
stability. I found OS 9 to be pretty stable, but when it crashed, it
took down the whole system. One misbehaving app meant a reboot. OSX has
solved this problem to a large extent. Because of protected memory
partitions, one bad app doesn't affect the whole system.

The networking in OSX is simply awesome. In 10.2.2, I can connect to
most anything just by plugging in. The system is smart enough to know
to look at ethernet, airport, modem etc. and see what it can connect
with.

I am running OSX on a Pismo and have had no real problems. Classic
works lie it should for the few non-carbon apps I still use. Most of
the software I use has been released for OSX, so I can take advantage
of the new look and features.

I also agree with your comments about .Mac. I understand Apple's need
to run a profitable business, but that whole thing wasn't handled well.

Hope that helps.
