First, I just read my own response, and it was kinda a jerk thing to write. The original post does sound troll like to me but I sounded pretty harsh, sorry to all for that.

Second, yeah, it is interesting how there was no unified naming until System 6 and it wasn't really cemented until System 7. Generally Mac OS prior to System 6 is not even referred to by number since it was just all the components with different version numbers. For a long time new OS versions were only being released with new Macs because the changes were just specific enablers for the new hardware. Curiosity, what was the first one to be Mac OS instead of System? I believe the change happened with 7.5.something or 7.6 but it was at or before 7.6 because it boots with the newer welcome splash screen. > Here's what I think. No one ver called it "system 4."
